Where is your range?

At North Harrow. We do not publish any more information for security reasons, though if you decide to visit us full details will be provided.

Is your range served by public transport?

Yes. It is within walking distance of North Harrow underground station, and also served by bus routes. If you decide to visit us full details will be provided.

What sort of firearms do you use at Dacorum Rifle Club?

Our range is licensed for small bore rifles at 25 yards. Many of our members shoot at other ranges and at 50 metres and 100 yards.

Can anyone own a firearm?

Subject to the possession of a Firearms Certificate, Yes.

Do you have facilities for air guns?

No, though several local clubs do. Please contact them direct, contact details may be found on the NSRA web site using their club finder.

What sort of targets do you use?

All of our shooting is done with card targets which have various layouts of circular aiming marks or bulls.

Do you compete in competitions?

Yes. For most target shooters that is the main object of the sport. We compete in postal competitions at a national level, as well as at the famous Bisley meeting in August. We also have a variety of internal club competitions for which a range of attractive trophies are awarded.

Is there a charge for the use of the range?

A beginner would pay a range fee each visit, and pay for any ammunition used. Club members pay an annual subscription and buy their own ammunition. Charges are kept to a minimum and pay for the hire of the range from the owner and the upkeep of equipment. Dacorum Rifle Club is a non-profit making organisation.

Is there a charge for instruction?

No. Full training is freely available on a one-to-one basis with an experienced instructor. From the beginning there is an emphasis on safety. Beginners can expect to receive this training for several months and mentoring and coaching is available throughout a shooters career.

Do you have rifles for loan?

Yes. The club has rifles suitable for a beginner to use, and accessories such as slings, jackets, and spotting telescopes. These items cannot be taken off the range.

Is there a minimum age to start shooting?

No, there is no minimum age, though youngsters need to be of a certain size and physical build to be able to handle a rifle successfully. By the mid-teens youngsters should be able to cope well. We recognise that school work is of prime importance.

Do you allow unattended children to shoot at your range?

No, children under the age of 18 must at all times be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.

Do you have a children and vulnerable adult policy?

Yes. Our children and vulnerable adult policy is written by our governing body, the National Small Bore Rifle Association and is based on guidelines issued by the NSPCC.

Soft drinks and snacks are available on the range.
